Sed quia sine proposito mentiuntur sunt saepius vani, leves inconsiderati, ac simplices. Cuiusmodi Q. Curius, cuius ἦθος sic describit Sallustius, Coniur. Catil. c. 23. Hinc homini non minor vanitas, quam audacia inerat, neque reticere, quae audierat; neque suamet ipse scelera occultare prorsus neque dicere neque facere quidquam pensi habebat. Denique Vani sunt, qui μάταιοι Graecis, quod μάτην, et Genio tantum suo morem gerentes mentiuntur, Aristoteles, Nicom. l. 4. c. 7. quales Lucianus in Philopseud. describit, quibus scil. mendacium ὄψον, quomodo eleganter κακαγορίαν κακαγόρων ὄψον vocat Pindarus. Quales et plani ii qui nullius lucri causâ, sed ut stolidae credulitati imponant modo, mendacia comminiscantur, ut observat Celsus, contra quem Origenes scripsit etc. Vide Desid.
